European Navigation System Galileo

An alternative and complement to the existing and widely used GPS navigation system will be the European Galileo system, currently under development. It currently consists of 23 operational satellites (status – April 2023), evenly distributed in 3 orbits.

  • Hertz Systems has been actively pursuing Galileo development projects for many years through research and development of signal quality and design of receivers with enhanced noise immunity and regulated service (PRS = Public Regulated Service), requiring very high accuracy and data reliability. Galileo PRS receivers are designed for public services (police, ambulance, administration) and the military.
  • The company is implementing a project codenamed GEODE funded by the European Commission . The aim of the project is to develop European standardized GPS-compatible Galileo PRS receivers dedicated to military applications. The project will develop receivers for land, sea, air platforms. Hertz Systems is developing a receiver for land platforms.
  • In its work on Galileo, the company is applying its extensive experience gained from more than 20 years of developing GPS receivers integrated with cryptographic modules for military platforms.
